Note: A question has been asked why we did not route the trip over Fort Mountain. At the time this article was submitted, it was winter time and safe passage over the mountain was not recommended. During summer months, the trip over the mountain is the preferred route.

This is a beautiful ride along the Ocoee River with the U.S. Olympic Whitewater Center along the ride. You can stop and tour the center and on weekends during certain times, they will release water from the dams and flood the river for wild rafting. This is very interesting to watch, as this creates a raging river, just as it was for the 1996 Olympics.

The directions listed below are from the North Georgia mountain town of Ellijay. They are a little misleading in Chatsworth, GA, as they should read, that once you enter GA Hwy 411 at Ramhurst, GA - you remain on Hwy 411 all the way to Ocoee, TN. You can also pick up this ride from I-75 in Dalton, GA by taking US-76 to Chatsworth, GA and turning left onto GA 411 and continuing onto Ocoee, TN.

If you like homemade country cooking, there is a little restaurant in Ducktown, TN on the left-hand side of the Hwy, just before turning Rt. towards Blue Ridge, GA.. The restaurant's name is the Old Fort Restaurant.
